  1. Task two: Why do leaders must be good servants?
Leaders must be good servants. It is important for leaders to act as serving leaders and not as a self-serving leader. Most of the most important leaders in the world had followed this principle: for being a leader they must learn how to serve. They should seek for the future, engage and develop the others, reinvent, value and embody people, skills and values. Leaders recognize people for whom they are and do, reward them in tangible and intangible whenever they can and respect the others. Looking for the others needs without forgetting their own goals gives them a better view of what should be the common wealth.

Good Leaders must be good servants?
yes! I totally agree cause as my mother always tell me... " To order, you have to know how to obey" And that's completely true... because how can you know if people are doing the right thing if you haven't do it before?
It is also important to comprehend and be supportive with your followers to make an improvement in the target or targets you're achivin'. I think envy goes no where but failure, so if you only think for your self and in your self your followers would probably quit, buuuut if you are humble people would admire you and respect you...and because of that...follow you!
you have to respect others as yourself and improve their skills, because by confident people and improving team you can achieve your goals faster and with higher quality.

"The leader's objective is to leverage the strenght of people and make their waknesses become irrelevant". Peter Drucker.
and always encourage your team and recognize someone when he/she do something good! we all love when somebody especially our boss /leader likes our work and recognize it.

    Participative Leadership

Participative leaders accept input from one or more group members when making decisions and solving problems, but the leader retains the final say when choices are made. Group members tend to be encouraged and motivated by this style of leadership. This style of leadership often leads to more effective and accurate decisions, since no leader can be an expert in all areas. Input from group members with specialized knowledge and expertise creates a more complete basis for decision-making.

  4. TASK 2

I agree with the reading because it is important to do what you preach, I mean if you want that your followers do the things right, you have to show them the way and if you act like a servant leader the results of what you were expecting will be better.
It is not good to only give orders and don't do anything, I think that persons are lazy.
Also it is good to cheer your workers and talk with them about the values that are important to have as a human being because they can improve their way of working.

  5. Task two: Anouk Elizabeth

Loyal Servant Leaders: We all thought about the leaders as the people who always rule, who had the last word, who decides what to do, how to react and stuff. Leaders always are highlighted because of their ability to make strategies to work better, but not all the time we realize that they may serve the common wealth of the rest of the people, they need to know what does the people, team, followers need.

Serve to the needs of the team and people who're following is crucial to get better resoults and know what does they want to survive, what does they need, how they could get it. The dynamic for get stronger when the world weight gets in our backs, nothing more to confess than they must have love to their own team, respect to themselves and most important, take in care all the followers that are with it...

1.- Transformational leader: Deep convinction, they execute in a good way their plans and they are prepared for unconventional situations.
2.- The enfocer leader:they trust in waht they are doing but limmit themselves to take any risk.
3.- The dealer maker: excited about new situations and they are energic, but in a short period of time they can get bored.
4.- The administrator:they are rigorous in what they do and tend to follow a strategy to achieve a goal.
5.- The visionary:they are good to convince people and inspire their followers to dream but they can't get to it.
6.- The serial entrepreneur: they are focus on what they have to do and like to work with other people.
7.- The spin doctor: they are good in almost all the aspects of a leader but they are not constant and have a self-serving idea.

  8. PODCAST COMMENT

I agree with the professor because he considers that as a leader you have to be constant and always know what you want to achieve.
He also said that to be a better leader you have to feel complete and happy as a person in aspects like family, society, mental heatlh, etc. and this is true because I think that if a person has happiness and all his personal life is going great, he or she will reflect that good emotions in the way of working.
The professor told that if you can lead youself first, you can then guide others and I totally agree with this thinking because the life is not easy and as a human being you have to learn a lot of things and know how to solve the problems that are possible to happen so if you have selfcontrol and intelligence, you can transmit that knowledge about life and work.
He disagrees with the idea of having charismatic leaders, he thinks they have style and good humor but they are not capable to make hard tasks and guide an entirely group.I share that idea because being charismatic can help you to convince people but in life is not all with nice human relationships but with knowing what to do in certain situations and how to hold a job.
I liked the story of the guy of Starbucks :)

  9. Task one:

    - The Transformational leader: Are the ones who can act in the 5 ways of leadership, different environments, who normally change the commitment of everyone around them.

    - The Enforcer leader: normally this kind of leader had straight goals, with caution but sure procedures, normally don't listen to the others because they had the "right" method with they all are gonna get the goal.

    - The Deal Maker leader: This kind of leaders normally use their charisma to make their followers to understand better the situations, what to do and in which way do they must act.

    - The Administrator leader: This kind of leaders get a really strict structure of how to do the things, their plans are normally really methodic, at the point that they must be followed such as letter by letter

    - The Visionary leader: This kind of leaders show a great passion to extend their ideals, goals, they change in many ways, because they most of the time, change their goals to something bigger, but they cannot control great amount of people.

    - The Serial Entrepreneur: This kind of leaders are calculating, imaginative gambling and really motivated leaders, they normally act in the way that they think they can reach all the goals, no matter how hard it may seem.

    - The Spin Doctor leaders: This kind of leader is mostly mean to be for a leader, they can act in several ways, had mostly of their ideas clear, they build their goals as the way of everyone can reach them, but most of the cases they can't satisfy its followers all the time

  10. Task 4: Authentic Leaders

An authentic leaders mostly need to being dynamic with their activities, work in a good mood, had charisma and work in a way that everyone could get a real good mood, so the resoults must be acceptable or even better. The life of some leaders had problems in the time of getting the answers of some problems, early leaders normally are loyal to their believes, but at the time that they start to work in the "real work" they had to change several thing about their method. Being an Authentic leader need to had a strong mind, got the initiative to start working with the problems that they had. Most of the leaders now at days start with something smart, or a work that would provide them the enough economic conditions to develop their goals, even working a company, need to show the workers that not all the time they need to be workers, they can lead in a certain way, they need to know their limits and the authentic leaders normally work with them to show them how to act in many ways to stay stable in the work. Most of the workers do not know their values in an ethic way.

In some aspects of working in a factory or in a company, they need to know that the leaders that can get a chance to lead in the way that they should do better the things, not to being in the top of the company, also how to get the motivations from others. The fist person that you need to know how to lead it's YOURSELF, because knowing your way of work, how to lead your ideals and goals, the others must be just as easy to know better them. When the leaders are in the way to rise agains the normals, they need to know how to control the pressure of the other people around you.

Being an authentic leader means that you can Lead Yourself, you can control the pressure from the outside, know and follow your believes and goals, and most important, To take in consideration your ethic values to lead your teamwork.

  12. TASK #1

    Differences between types of leadership.

The Charismatic leaders only focus in gaining people's confidence so that they can be followed, inspite of the Quiet leader whose objective is to convince through the thinking-acting method.

The Participative leader listens to his/her peers and every other stakeholder instead of taking only its own decisions, this is something that happens in a contrary way with the Transactional leader because this one thinks that a leader is a hundred percent commander of its subordinates, he/she believes in the action-reaction, punishment-reward kind of method. This type of leader has a very organized working structure and is often low avatar allowable.

The Situational leader, as its name says, thinks in all possible situations so that when something happens, one can be alert and know what to do "if". This kind of leader knows that everything is in constant change and for that reason one has to be mentally and physically prepared.

The Transformational leader is the one that cares entirelly about its followers and therefore encourages them with enthisiasm and lots of energy. A Transformational leader is very creative and is always updating ideas so that the followers keep on wanting to achieve their goals that overall will achieve the entire group's goals.

The Servant leader's way of thinking is very acquiescent because its aim is to serve others before the others serve him. They think that by serving them their going to act in a more positive way because they will feel aid and will be more likely to get things done for themselves and for others. An example of a cute and intelligent Servant leader is the main character of the movie "Pay it forward" starring Haley Joel Osment.

The enforcer: really prudent and careful person in what achievement of goals means, he’s a stronger believer of what he does but he doesn’t like to take risks, he only goes for what’s sure.
The deal maker: great energy and good conviction, usually doesn’t follow standards, he likes to break the mold. He’s sometimes instable after he achieved the first success.
The administrator: Strategic executor, are likely to prefer detailed and rigorous project plans, constant monitoring and updating, and tight control over resources and people.
The visionary: encourage people to dream even though the fall could be harder, have the same qualities as transformational leader, but he’s stronger at elevating ambition in people but weak at generating critical mass.
The serial entrepreneur: creative but he calculates every single movement he plays. He doesn’t care to sweep people between as long as he achieves his goals, even when he make extremely hard to achieve. He carries about meaningful things for he’s followers.
The spin doctor: He’s the perfect leader as we imagine except he has no conviction and inconsistence, but he is eloquent and persuasive.

  15. task 1 part 2:

Charismatic leadership: Charm and gracefull, self-believers, for them no external power is needed. Specialist in make people feel important. Extremely persuasive, use body and verbal language.
Participative leadership: seeks to involve other people in the process, possibly including subordinates, peers, superiors and other stakeholders. Often, however, as it is within the managers' whim to give or deny control to his or her subordinates, most participative activity is within the immediate team.
Situational leadership: When a decision is needed, an effective leader does not just fall into a single preferred style. Factors that affect situational decisions include motivation and capability of followers. This, in turn, is affected by factors within the particular situation. The relationship between followers and the leader may be another factor that affects leader behavior as much as it does follower behavior.
Leaders here work on such factors as external relationships, acquisition of resources, managing demands on the group and managing the structures and culture of the group.
Transactional leadership: works through creating clear structures whereby it is clear what is required of their subordinates, and the rewards that they get for following orders. Negociates the contract whereby the subordinate is given a salary and other benefits, and the company gets authority over the subordinate. The transactional leader often uses management by exception, working on the principle that if something is operating to defined performance then it does not need attention.
Transformational leadership: They put passion and energy into everything. They care about you and want you to succeed. Start with the development of a vision, a view of the future that will excite and convert potential followers. The next step, which in fact never stops, is to constantly sell the vision. This takes energy and commitment, as few people will immediately buy into a radical vision, and some will join the show much more slowly than others. In parallel with the selling activity is seeking the way forward. Some Transformational Leaders know the way, and simply want others to follow them. The final stage is to remain up-front and central during the action. Transformational Leaders are always visible and will stand up to be counted rather than hide behind their troops.
The quiet leader: they base their success not on ego and force of character but on their thoughts and actions. Although they are strongly task-focused, they are neither bullies nor unnecessarily unkind and may persuade people through rational argument and a form of benevolent Transactional Leadership.
Servant leadership: The servant leader serves others, rather than others serving the leader. Serving others thus comes by helping them to achieve and improve. leader has responsibility for the followers, have a responsibility towards society and those who are disadvantaged.

  16. TASK #4

According to the podcast I have just heard from professor Bill George.

Authentic leaders are genuine and true to what they believe in. They use their heart and head, they practice compassion and empathy. I think that a really important stage of being a leader is to build good relationships with everyone so that you can achieve your goals and others' more easily.

A great leader analyzes results in their teams so they can help each member find what he/she's looking for. Most leaders know that a Charismatic leader is not the best one because they don't search for character, integrity and subtance. I think they're right because encouragement is not the only thing needed, people have to be constant even if there's nobody there to tell them they are capable to accomplish certain tasks.

Another important thing that a leader needs to do is to follow its "True North" because it is important to be authentic and consistent. One has to follow its inner compass, especially when pressure and seductions like money and power come by. For this we can mention the environment impact, each person's life story is crucial because it is scientifically proved that our past has a lot to do with our present. For example, if you were reached in a difficult environment, there is a probability that if you route your feelings to the right path, you will be able to step up and lead with the passion needed.

Another important point I considered was asking your subordinates directly for help to achieve everybody's goals, communication and enlightenment are very transcendental because it is important to learn which are each team member's goals. This can bring a series of consequences, although some can be not that good, some can be great because now the vision of most of the company members is not to be leaded but to lead. People don't want bosses nowadays and it's okay for leaders to create leaders and for leaders to aid their coworkers to create a better association.

Again, according to the podcast, there are two types of leaders. The takers, which don't care about others and instead of building, destroy, eventhough some appear to be powerful and sometimes charismatic. And the givers, that are authentic leaders because they're shareholders and servants. Sometimes people who fail make more money than people who succeed, but if material life is not your priority (which it shouldn't) then it is 0K.

    TO BE CONTINUED...

  17. TASK 5.
Ok. ammm.. I actually liked how the professor planted the whole authentic leader becoming situation, why? because he has his own specific rules or basis to follow. You should and you must believe in what your doing and make others believe it. You should find an balance among all aspects of your life and be the same person in every single one but not mixing them.
And you should always have a great team to work with and be confident with them, cause as he said, leadership sometimes can be lonely. And as humans aren't perfect I guess more than one brain works awesome.
This post cast kind of remind me to" my first million" book... because usually people who have this kind of success had a difficult life and I think, that's part of the process cause many people as us that have a relative comfortable and easy life we think achieving what we want or need is "easy" or at least we imagine not as hard as it actually is, and this people who never have anything or not that easy can better handle with difficult situations or have more vision and ambition to obtain things they never had or work the most, I guess is part of the role you always played in life, even though any one could achieve something like this.
Hurray for the starbucks guy...so smart a coffee became a world capital enterprise.

  19. Task four: Being a leader
It is not easy to be a leader. Leaders can commit many mistakes which can lead into fatal consequences for the common goal of the team. Leaders should have the three types of leader’s attitudes: authoritative, delegate and cooperative but sometimes their own interest makes it difficult for them to stick to the primary goal. In the conversation it is mentioned the problems related with charismatic leaders. Charismatic leaders tend to lose the correct way. They usually tend to look for their own interests. This is why it is said that charismatic leader’s turns to be a farce of what it should be a real leader.

  20. Task one (first link) Types of leaders
There are different types of leaders. According to their attitude they can be classified into seven types.
Transformational leader: strong in their five leadership behaviors leading into the transformation of the ones who surrounds them. Convinced goals and determinate they go against conventional wisdom.
Enforcer leader: have cautious optimism and like to achieve specific objectives. Avoid risk and tend to limit the options.
Deal marker: their performance can vary after achieving a goal. They attract by their energy and excitement for anything new.
Administrator: These leaders are strategic executors who are clear in what needs to be achieved and ruthlessly follow through. They are autocratic in approach, letting nothing stand in the way of achieving the overall objective, and are likely to prefer detailed and rigorous project plans, constant monitoring and updating, and tight control over resources and people.
Visionary: Inspire people to dream of greatness but fail to follow through. They have the same qualities as the transformational leaders but are weak at generating critical mass.
Serial entrepreneur: They are imaginative, but calculating, gamblers. They have huge energy and commitment because they make seemingly impossible challenges achievable. Their actions can result meaningful to their followers.
Spin doctor: seem to be like perfect leader but their behavior is inconsistent and self-serving - they have underdeveloped conviction. What distinguishes these leaders most is their ability to convincingly argue the case, any case, and justify the change to followers.

  21. First task (second link)types of leaders
There are different theories for categorizing leaders. One of them is according to their beliefs, values and preferences and culture for encouraging the others: Charismatic Leadership, Participative Leadership, Situational Leadership, Transactional Leadership, Transformational Leadership, The Quiet Leader and Servant Leadership.
Charismatic: they gather followers through dint of personality and charm, rather than any form of external power or authority. They focus strongly on making the group very clear and distinct, separating it from other groups. They make effective use of storytelling, including the use of symbolism and metaphor. They show vision and articulation; Sensitivity to the environment; Sensitivity to member needs; Personal risk taking; Performing unconventional behavior.
Participative: Involvement in decision-making improves the understanding ('Management by Objectives')
Situational: The best action of the leader depends on a range of situational factors. The leaders' perception of the follower and the situation will affect what they do rather than the truth of the situation. The leader's perception of themselves and other factors such as stress and mood will also modify the leaders' behavior. There are 6 variables: Subordinate effort: the motivation and actual effort expended.
Subordinate ability and role clarity: followers knowing what to do and how to do it.
Organization of the work: the structure of the work and utilization of resources.
Cooperation and cohesiveness: of the group in working together.
Resources and support: the availability of tools, materials, people, etc.
External coordination: the need to collaborate with other groups.
Transactional: People are motivated by reward and punishment. Transactional leadership is based in contingency, in that reward or punishment is contingent upon performance.
Quiet leader: they base their success not on ego and force of character but on their thoughts and actions. Although they are strongly task-focused, they are neither bullies nor unnecessarily unkind and may persuade people through rational argument and a form of benevolent Transactional Leadership.

Transformational: Leader has to be very careful in creating trust, and their personal integrity is a critical part of the package that they are selling. Inspires trust. They balance their attention between action that creates progress and the mental state of their followers.
Servant: The servant leader serves others, rather than others serving the leader. Serving others thus comes by helping them to achieve and improve.
    By Miren Paola Flores Jiménez

  22. task one... Lewin’s leadership styles (3 styles)
Autocratic: In the autocratic style, the leader takes decisions without consulting with others. The decision is made without any form of consultation. It caused the most level of discontent.
Democratic: The leader involves the people in the decision-making, although the process for the final decision may vary from the leader having the final say to them facilitating consensus in the group. It can be problematic when there are a wide range of opinions and there is no clear way of reaching an equitable final decision.
Laissez-Faire: The laissez-faire style is to minimize the leader's involvement in decision-making, and hence allowing people to make their own decisions, although they may still be responsible for the outcome

    Likert’s leadership styles
Exploitive authoritative: The leader has a low concern for people and uses such methods as threats and other fear-based methods to achieve conformance. Communication and people psychology is not taken in account.

Benevolent authoritative: The leader now uses rewards to encourage appropriate performance and listens more to concerns lower down the organization, almost all major decisions are taken centrally.
Consultative: tries to listen to others ideas but major decisions are still largely centrally made.
Participative: At this level, the leader makes maximum use of participative methods, engaging people lower down the organization in decision-making

    ReplyDelete
  23. Leader styles: six styles of leading that have different effects on the emotions of the target followers.
The Visionary Leader moves people towards a shared vision.
The Coaching Leader connects wants to organizational goals, holding long conversations that reach beyond the workplace, helping people find strengths and weaknesses and tying these to career aspirations and actions.
The Affiliative Leader creates people connections and thus harmony within the organization. It is a very collaborative style which focuses on emotional needs over work needs.
The Democratic Leader acts to value inputs and commitment via participation, listening to both the bad and the good news.
The Pace-setting Leader builds challenge and exciting goals for people, expecting excellence and often exemplifying it themselves. They identify poor performers and demand more of them.
The Commanding Leader soothes fears and gives clear directions by his or her powerful stance, commanding and expecting full compliance (agreement is not needed). They need emotional self-control for success and can seem cold and distant.

  24. TASK ONE!!!
    Differences between kinds of leaders...

The Transformational Leader is strong in all leadership behaviors, which are:
    -taking and making risks
    -having conviction
    -generation of critical mass
    -imposition of context, and
    -capacity of challenge and change

THE ENFORCER on the other hand, is strong in imposing context, having conviction and generating critical mass, but weak in making and taking risks and challenge and change

THE DEAL MAKER is strong in making and taking risks and challenging and changing things but is inevitably weak in the other leadership behaviors

THE ADMINISTRATOR is strong in imposing context and generating critical mass but is weak in the other leadership behaviors

THE VISIONARY is strong in all leadership behaviors apart from generating critical mass

THE SERIAL ENTREPRENEUR is strong in making and taking risks, having conviction, and challenge and change, but weak in imposing context and generating critical mass

Finally, THE SPIN DOCTOR is strong in all leadership behaviors apart from having conviction

    TASK TWO!!!
why do leaders have to be servant leaders...

A leader who understands the problems of his people, and the necessities of the ones surrounding him has better chances to lead his subordinates effectively to the ultimate goal than other leaders who don't quite get the point of serving others.

In the end it doesn't matter if people follow you, what it does matter is why are they following you, what is their goal, where do they think you'll eventually lead them to? and if that's a good goal that justifies certain ways to arrive to it, then nothing else matters.

A selfless leader who puts before him the necessities of his people is a leader who will surely succeed in the future, because of the support he will undoubtedly receive from the ones following him, and his altruistic behaviour.

    TASK THREE!!!
what kind of leader am I?

My results indicate that my leadership style is both: Participative and Delegative

DELEGATIVE LEADERS allow group members to make decisions. This style is best used in situations where the leader needs to rely on qualified employees. The leader cannot be an expert in all situations, which is why it is important to delegate certain tasks out to knowledgeable and trustworthy employees.

The World's First 21st Century Leader

“Obama is the first leader to demonstrate the range of qualities needed to deal with our complex age and conditions.” Well I disagree… I think Obama doesn’t have that much personality, I think he is not that strong to lead a country such as USA, and I think he doesn’t deserve the world peace award at all.
“As a charismatic leader, he has revealed a soaring eloquence, fierce intellect, gravitas, passion, conviction and a rare ability to mobilize and inspire diverse groups of people in the US and around the world.” I was the person that believes in him at first but I really don’t know anymore… I don’t say it’s completely bad but I don’t think he’s right either so I this task I don’t have so much opinions. Although I would never deny his intellectual capacity, but I guess he could enforce more his character to be a great leader.
